CALUMET — The Calumet Copper Kings earned another West-PAC victory with a sweep (25-16, 25-10, 25-11) over the L’Anse Purple Hornets Thursday in Calumet.

“Essentially it comes down to what team wants the win more, and it happens to be our opponents clearly want it more,” L’Anse head coach Callie Budweg said. “The girls both on the court or on the bench have to start realizing the intensity they have to start playing at, or we’ll stay at this sub-par level of volleyball for the remainder of the year.”

Megan Hendrickson had eight assists for L’Anse, and Josie Rice added six kills. Mandy Gransell added 10 serve points and two kills.

“It’s not to say there isn’t bright spots, because I see many — but the fact of the matter is that I need leadership and there hasn’t been any to be seen, yet,” Budweg said. “Although there’s lots of potential.”

Next, Calumet hosts Houghton on Tuesday, while L’Anse heads to Hancock on Thursday.
