Boys roundup: Chassell, LL-H continue to roll; Calumet drops opener

CHASSELL — The Chassell Panthers earned another dominating win, this time defeating the Baraga Vikings 76-35 Thursday in Chassell.

Nate Gockenbach led Chassell with 21 points and six rebounds, while Elijah Soumis had 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.

“We are moving the ball well and hitting the open man,” Chassell coach Bill Sleeman said. “Still early in the year, but I really like where we are at right now.”

Chassell (2-0, 2-0) took a 32-19 lead into halftime before limiting the Vikings (0-2, 0-2) to just 16-second-half points.

“We started out a little rough coming off a couple snow days,” Sleeman said. “Once we got our feet under us, we cruised.”

Next, Chassell welcomes Republic-Michigamme on Monday, while Baraga hosts Watersmeet on the same day.
