Gremlins earn team victory in Calumet/Ontonagon Invite
CALUMET — Houghton’s Jisung Choi played well on the opening nine of the Calumet/Ontonagon Invite Monday at the Calumet Golf Course, carding a 39, the third-lowest score after the opening nine. Where he separated himself from the field on was on the second nine, where he carded a 37 en route to earning medalists honors with a 76.
More importantly, the Gremlins earned a team victory by sneaking a one-stroke win over the host Copper Kings, 334-335.
Ryszard Olszewski (87), Jimmy Pietila (86), and Brady Schmierer (85) joined Choi to give the Gremlins the win.
Tyler Johnson led the way for the Copper Kings by matching Choi’s second nine en route to a team-best 78. Wyatt Turoniemi (81), Landon Johnson (82), and Andrew Escola (94) joined the elder Johnson in scoring.
Hancock’s Trevor Tchida and L’Anse’s Cooper Koskinen also had strong days matching Turoniemi’s 81 and posting the lowest scores on their respective teams.
