2nd win: Garnet Garage earns victory over Dean Kangas, 3-1

HANCOCK — In a tightly-contested game Tuesday, Garnet Garage used a three-run outburst over two innings to earn a victory over Dean Kangas-State Farm at the Hancock Driving Park.

For Garnet, pitcher Austin Kuivanen had a strong night, allowing his first hit in the third inning and only allowing three more on the night while holding the Dean Kangas offense to just one run. He also walked two while striking out six.

Garnet struck first in the top of the second. Alex Kissel walked and he later scored.

In the top of the third, Garnet found themselves again in position to socre as Reed Heathman and Luke Kissel singled on consecutive at bats. Both found their way home before the inning was over.

The three-run lead held up until Kuivanen walked Dave Wesa in the fourth. Wesa stole second and later scored on a double by catcher Scott Pietila during the next at bat.

From there, Kuivanen shut down the Dean Kangas bats, surrendering three singles. Player-manager Brian Juopperi was the only Dean Kangas baserunner to threaten to score, getting to third before Pietila grounded out.

Luke Paul, who took the mound for Dean Kangas, shut down the Garnet bats after the third inning, holding them to just four baserunners.

The two teams meet again Thursday at Stanton Field.

With the win, Garnet moved to 2-3 on the season. Dean Kangas fell to 1-4 with the loss.
