Garnet Garage gets win
STANTON — The newest and youngest team in the Copper Country Twilight League captured their first win on Thursday and did so in dramatic fashion. Garnet Garage beat REL Inc.-Mohawk Technology, 1-0, on a walk-off error in the bottom of the seventh inning.
It was a pitching duel as REL’s Alan Jurmu and Garnet’s Rob Brooks went the distance. Brooks got the complete-game victory with four strikeouts and just one walk. Jurmu threw an equally good seven innings. He struck out seven and gave up just one walk as well.
Both teams put the ball into play but into the hands of good defenses on both sides inning after inning. However, in the seventh the boys from Garnet Garage broke the mold.
Luke Kissel led things off with a hard hit ball to REL’s shortstop, who bobbled it, allowing Kissel to get to first safely. He got to second on a sacrifice bunt by Will Romano and advanced to third on a wild pitch before finally crossing home plate to seal the win.
