Huskies Hockey: Tech opens GLI against No. 18 MSU

DETROIT — Michigan Tech will open the 55th annual Great Lakes Invitational today against No. 18 Michigan State.
The Huskies (10-8-1, 8-6 WCHA) look to make their fifth straight championship appearance.

Michigan (6-10-2, 2-7-1 Big Ten) faces Ferris State (6-9-2, 4-6-2 WCHA) at 4 p.m. in the other game.
The third-place game will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The championship follows at 2:30 p.m.
All games will be broadcast on 93.5 FM The Mix and flohockey.tv. Fox Sports Detroit will broadcast the title game.
It’ll be Michigan Tech’s first game action since a tie and loss to No. 4 Clarkson on Dec. 13-14.
The Huskies are unbeaten in eight of the last 10 games. The Dec. 14 loss to Clarkson was Tech’s first loss since Nov. 29 at Alaska.
Sophomore forward Alec Broetzman paces the team with 14 points including eight goals. Fellow sophomores Brian Halonen, Trenton Bliss and Eric Gotz have 11 points. Freshman Parker Saretsky has 11 points including three goals.
Senior goalie Matt Jurusik leads the team with a 9-5-1 record and has started the last 10 games for Tech. He has a .924 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.
Michigan State split with Arizona State in its last games Dec. 14-15. The Spartans won the second game 1-0 in overtime after losing 4-3 the night before.
Senior forward Patrick Khodorenko leads Michigan State with nine goals and 17 points. Junior forward Mitchell Lewandowski has six goals and 13 points. Sophomore defenseman Dennis Cesana has three goals and 11 points.
John Lethemon has logged nearly 930 minutes in goal for the Spartans and has a 9-5-1 record. Lethemon has a .941 save percentage and 2.01 goals-against average.
Michigan enters the GLI having gone 3-3 in its last six games, including a split on Dec. 6-7 against No. 6 Penn State.
Ferris State enters the tournament with a 3-1-2 record in its past six games. The Bulldogs won and tied with Alabama-Huntsville on Dec. 13-14.
Michigan Tech starts the second half of the regular season on Jan. 4-5 at Arizona State. The Huskies host Bowling Green on Jan. 10-11.
