L’ANSE — The L’Anse Purple Hornets held off Ewen-Trout Creek 39-34 for the Division 4 District 97 championship on Friday.

The Panthers trailed by two points heading into the fourth quarter, but L’Anse outscored them 12-9 to seal the win.

Maija Rice led L’Anse with 11 points. Addison Mattson followed with nine.

L’Anse led 19-12 at halftime.

L’Anse will advance to the Region 25 semifinals on Tuesday where they will face Carney-Nadeau in Kingsford. L’Anse’s foe from the other side of Keweenaw Bay, Baraga, faces Munising in the other regional semifinal at Kingsford.
