TAPIOLA — Houghton hammered 23 hits on the way to an easy 17-4 win over Baraga Thursday in the Over 50 Softball League Opener.

Tom LeGault and Dave Usitalo collected four hits apiece for the winners. Dan Eikenberry, Dave Kamerand and Jim Madejewski chipped in three hits.

Steve Dunstan was the winning pitcher, with Steve Giddings taking the loss for Baraga (Chassell in 2019).

South Range captured a 5-1 victory over Tapiola in the other game as ageless Joe Rossi claimed the mound win. Rossi gave up just six hits.

Len Juntunen was the losing pitcher, allowing just seven hits — two by Jim Puotinen and Ron Wehner.

Jim Duquette picked up two hits for Tapiola.
