Osier, Hintze win Portage Lake Golf Course Women’s Scramble

HOUGHTON — Nancy Osier and Mary Hintze won the Michigan Tech-Portage Lake Golf Course Women’s Scramble on Tuesday.

The duo, both of Ewen-Trout Creek, won with a 2-under par 70 for a two-stroke victory. They combined for five birdies and three bogeys.

First flight winners included Vickie Lobeck (Chassell) and Sheryl Sorby (Houghton), who shot a 3-over 75. Cathy Shamion (Ontonagon) and Jane Dickow (White Pine) took second with a 5-over 77.

Sarah Baratono (Hancock) and Molly Koskela (Houghton) won the second flight with an 85. Carol Helminen (Hancock) and Amy Storm (Calumet) took second.

Melissa Stein (Hancock) and Trish Stein (Houghton) won the skins with a birdie on hole No. 3. Osier and Hintze birdied holes five and 11.

Marcia Butvilas and Andrea Longhini birdied No. 9. Barb Rossi and Holly Rintala carded an eagle on No. 13.

Kenna Farrey won long drive on No. 2. Storm won closest to the pin on No. 4. Melissa Stein won closest to the pin on No. 15. Longhini won longest putt on No. 9. Pat Ovist won shortest drive on No. 10. Amy Chapin won closest to the pin on No. 14. Kim Lorenzetti won closest to the pin on No. 15 and Claire Snow won long drive on No. 17.

Portage Lake Golf Course hosts the UPGA Junior Tournament on Monday. PLGC hosts a senior scramble July 22 and a couples tournament July 25. The PLGC Men’s Club Championship is Aug. 1-2.
