PAINESDALE — They were a little short in numbers Tuesday night, but the Jeffers Jets were able to post a Mountain Lakes Conference home court sweep over Dollar Bay-Tamarack City squad.

“We were missing some players, but fortunately our upperclassmen came through” said junior varsity coach Madeline Larson. “They (Blue Bolts) came to play.”

Larson was filling in for head coach Rachel Torp.

In posting 25-13, 25-23 and 25-17 wins, the Jets had to hold off a rallying DB-TC team in the second set.

The Blue Bolts broke from an early deadlock to grab a 14-12 and 16-13 leads in the second set.

Kendra Kangas and Ashlea Datto sparked the move in the set coach Rachel Griffin.

But the work of junior Savannah Asiala and senior Myra Pennala enabled JHS to work out of trouble.

Asiala notched 6 kills and three aces overall. Senior MaKenna Harris totaled 8 kills and three aces to play a major role. Pennala was a standout on defense.

“Those three players really played well tonight,” Larson said.

The Blue Bolts received fine play from Kendra Kangas and Datto were in the middle of most of Dollar Bay’s work.

Jeffers will host rival Chassell on Thursday.

ALSO: Chassell swept L’Anse on Tuesday. The Panthers won by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-10.
