Michigan Tech hockey visits Ferris State

The Michigan Tech Huskies play a rare midweek game at Ferris State in a bid to rebound from a sweep last weekend.

The Huskies (8-5-1) were swept by No. 8 Bowling Green last weekend. Michigan Tech was ranked No. 18 going into the weekend and the losses stripped the Huskies of their ranking as they were barely edged out of the top 20 in this week’s USCHO Division I poll.

Ferris State is coming off a weekend sweep by Northern Michigan on Jan. 29-30.

Puck drop is 7:07 p.m. today, the first of 10 scheduled games this month for the Huskies.

Tech entered last weekend with a seven-game win streak. The struggling Bulldogs (1-12) could be a quick fix for Tech to pick up a win before visiting Alabama Huntsville this weekend.

The Huskies and Bulldogs will grow familiar with each other as they square off in a week for another Tuesday matchup after Tech’s series at Alabama Huntsville. The Huskies’ next home game is Feb. 12 — against the Bulldogs for a Friday-Saturday series.

Tech’s final five home games this season will be played this month against Ferris State, Bemidji State and a weekend series opener Feb. 26 against Northern Michigan.

The Huskies committed 12 penalties against Bowling Green for 24 penalty minutes. The Falcons generated momentum with the man advantage, going 4 of 8 on the power play.

Tech committed eight penalties in Saturday’s game alone, allowing the Falcons to pepper Tech goaltender Blake Pietila. The Falcons outshot the Huskies 20-6 in the second period.
