Baseball: Gremlins fall to IM in WestPAC championship
Houghton’s Farrell no-hits Miners in tourney semifinal
IRON MOUNTAIN — Kade Farrell threw a no-hitter to put Houghton in the WestPAC championship, where they lost to Iron Mountain on Saturday.
On the mound in the semifinal against Negaunee, Farrell struck out seven and walked three in the 6-0 win. He helped himself at the plate with two of Houghton’s three hits, and scored twice.
The Gremlins scored in the first and added three in the third. Houghton added a run each in the fourth and sixth. Houghton took advantage of Negaunee’s inconsistent pitching, drawing six walks.
Iron Mountain got the bats going early and stayed hot in a 16-1 win after four innings for the conference championship.
The Mountaineers had 10 hits, including four in a four-run first inning. Houghton was held to two hits, scoring its lone run in the second inning on a Dylan Horning single.
