CHASSELL — As the baseball/softball adage goes: “Walks will kill you.”
That certainly was the case for Superior Service as they walked in two REL, Inc. runs in the first inning, and that led to an 6-2 victory for REL, Inc. in Copper Country Women’s Fastpitch League action Wednesday night.
“Our struggle this year has been playing a full game,” said Superior Services’s player-manager Reagan Moyle. “We usually have one bad inning that puts us in a slump, and we can’t get out of it.”
While REL, Inc. added a third run in the second, Superior Service showed signs of hope in the third. With one out, Milly Loukus stepped up to the plate and drilled a riser over the left fielder and off the fence for a two-run homerun. But that was as good as it got for Superior.
Strong pitching by REL, Inc.’s Vera Peterson and Delaney Heinonen blanked Superior for the remaining four innings. Peterson helped her own cause with a two-run homer to left in the sixth to put REL. Inc. up 6-2.
“It felt good coming off the bat,” she said with a smile. “I was long overdue.”
