Fire damages Baraga County business

BARAGA — A Baraga County business suffered extensive damage in a fire early Friday morning. The fire at Carla’s Inn and Restaurant in Keweenaw Bay was reported about 1:30 a.m., the Michigan State Police Calumet Post said in a release. There had been no reports of anyone injured in the fire or while responding to it, Sgt. Gary Salwey said Friday afternoon. Police arrest suspect in string of larcenies

HOUGHTON — Houghton police have arrested a Houghton man they believe to be responsible for a string of larcenies from local cars and a laundromat. Shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday morning, Houghton officers responded to a sighting of a person going through vehicles in the parking lot of a local business. Arriving at the scene, police found and arrested a 40-year-old Houghton man. He was lodged at the Houghton County Jail on a probation violation.
