Council does not speak for us

To the editor: We, the medical staff of Baraga County Memorial Hospital, bring your attention to a document, titled the Baraga County Manifesto and signed by county officials. We received a concern from a community member who had read the Manifesto. She was worried about whether it would still be safe to come to the hospital, thinking the Manifesto required us to change our practices. To the editor: This is in regard to the recent letter sent by Baraga County officials to the State of Michigan—the infamous “enough is enough” letter. They are right that enough is enough. To the editor: We are now in the second surge of the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, the United States, at approximately 3.3%, leads the major countries in the percentage of cases relative to the population. Some other countries with high percentage cases are Brazil (2.3%), France (2.9%), and the UK (1.9%). Speed limit change

To the editor: Years ago, the speed limit on many highways was 65 mph during the day and those same signs changed to 55 mph at night. My question is why not now? What happened to change this? I have talked to our state police and they said our roads were safer when the speed limit was at 65 during the day. Our state representatives, driving long hours and miles in the U.P. back and four to Lansing, also agree. To the editor: I assume this phrase sounds pretty familiar: “No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service” — almost! Have you ever wondered why no one gives pushback about the “imposed dress code” for entering a restaurant, shoes and shirt are required to get served. I’ve not seen anyone out protesting or writing letters to the editor, or taking out full page ads to complain.
