Paavo Nurmi’s five Olympic running golds will be displayed

MONACO (AP) — The five Olympic gold medals won by Finnish running great Paavo Nurmi will return to Paris and be on display next month to mark a century since his unique achievement at the 1924 Paris Games. To mark the upcoming Paris Games, the medals will be exhibited from March 27-Sept. 22 at the Monnaie de Paris on the left bank of the river Seine. They will form part of a larger exhibition of Olympic medals called “D’or, d’argent, de bronze” (Of gold, silver and bronze) organized by the museum of the French mint. University of Dubuque to add men’s and women’s hockey

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The University of Dubuque has announced the addition of Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey to their NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Athletics Program with competition to begin for the school year 2023-24. UD will be partnering with the Dubuque Ice Arena, which is home to the Dubuque Fighting Saints (United States Hockey League), and with its managing partner, Q Casino, to utilize the facility for practices and competitions. WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Finlandia University men’s and women’s hockey team had a total of 23 athletes named to the NCHA All-Academic team, as released by the league office. To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 G.P.A. and be a sophomore or higher in class standing. Bartle earns D3.com basketball honors

HANCOCK — Junior Natalie Bartle added to her trophy case as she was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region 9 second team.   Bartle is the first basketball player, male or female, to earn D3hoops.com honors in school history.  She is now on the All-American Ballot. Bartle has had an impressive first season for the Lions, averaging 21.41 points, 7.14 rebounds, 5.05 assists and 3.86 steals per game while shooting 80.4% from the line.  She has scored in double-figures in 21 games with a streak of 13 games and has recorded five double-doubles.  Bartle averaged 5.55 defensive rebounds ...

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Junior Natalie Bartle broke a school record as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (12-12) lost 96-61 to NCAA DIII #1 Christopher Newport (25-0), Friday night at the William M. Anderson Center. This was a Coast-To-Coast Conference Championship semifinal game. Christopher Newport jumped out to a 15-2 lead after five minutes and did not look back. PEORIA, Ill. — The Finlandia University softball team (0-4) lost twice at the Blue Angel Dome Invite, Friday at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. The Lions played Augustana (Ill) and Elmhurst.
