Events and Opportunities
Aug. 2
• Stuff the Bus 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Houghton Walmart. STUFF THE BUS (a really big bus will be parked at Walmart) Here’s an opportunity for our community to help families in need of supplies for their children in preparation for school. Donations will continue throughout August. Sponsored by Copper Country Angel Mission, The Salvation Army, Bread of Life Center and Walmart. Help kids in need succeed.
• Houghton High School Alumni Association will host a Pancake Breakfast, with Silent Pie & gift basket auction,8:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Houghton High School. Menu includes, choice of traditional, blueberry & Shelby’s Finnish pancakes, Vollwerth’s sausage, fruit & beverage, $10 donation & tickets are available from the pancake breakfast alumni committee members, B & B Bar and at the door. The pie auction will feature pies baked by Alumnus representing class eras, and gift baskets with a variety of items
• Agate Beach Jamboree, 11 a.m. The Agate Beach Jamboree is an amateur acoustic music festival held on the beautiful beach adjacent to Lake Superior, Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 11 each day. Bring your instrument to jam, sign up for a performance slot on stage, or just enjoy the music.
• Amanda DeBoer Bartlett concert, noon Calumet Art Center. Hear Amanda DeBoer Bartlett in the Sanctuary Gallery at the Calumet Art Center, singing songs from her new album “Braided Together.” There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Amanda is a Chicago-based singer and songwriter specializing in contemporary classical music, folk music, and improvisation.

• Bob Milne Concert. 2 p.m. Keweenaw Storytelling Center, 215 5th st. Calumet. Copper Country favorite Bob Milne returns for another ragtime piano performance at the Keweenaw Storytelling Center in Calumet.
• Friends of Fashion Show, 2 p.m. Chassell Heritage Center. The Friends of Fashion will present a historical review of Henry Ford’s impact on the Upper Peninsula. The first part concerns Ford’s early life, enhanced with lovely vintage fashions…moving to his land holding in the Upper Peninsula, centering on the history of Pequaming. Rod Liimatainen’s 20-Millionth Model T will be on display that day. Tickets are $10.
• Polka Dance 5-8 p.m. South Range Eagles, 8 Baltic Ave. The South Range Eagles Club hosts polka dances with live music each Sunday. All are welcome.
Aug. 4
• Musial Monday, 7 p.m. Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne’s. Tonight’s Keweenaw Heritage Center Musical Monday performance will feature the Copper Country Community Band, the admission is $5.
Sept. 3
• The Inter-Lutheran Seminary’s fall semester starts on September 3. Daily classes include History of the Church: Reformation to the Present Day, Principles of Biblical Interpretation, Gospel of John, New Testament Introduction, Christian Education, Isaiah & Koine Greek Readings. The Monday night class will be on Prison Epistles and begin on September 8 at 7PM at 916 Pine Street, Hancock and available online.
