Heritage grants awarded

HANCOCK — The Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission is pleased to announce that this year’s Keweenaw Heritage Grant program has awarded $124,902 in funding for various historic preservation, interpretation, education, and curatorial projects covering an area stretching from Eagle Harbor to the Porcupine Mountains. Little Brothers to hold breakfast, open house

HANCOCK — Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly will be holding a pancake breakfast/40th anniversary open house from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the dining hall of its Hancock office, located at 527 Hancock St. Proceeds from the pancake breakfast support the group’s Medical Transportation Program. Attendees can learn more about that and other core programs and volunteer opportunities over a plate of pancakes and sausages, organizers said. Breakfast tickets cost $5 each and are available at the door. Limited indoor seating, outdoor seating and take-out available.

Western U.P. Board of Health meeting set

ONTONAGON — The regular monthly meeting of the Western U.P. Board of Health will be held at 6 p.m EST Monday at the Western U.P. Health Department, 408 Copper Street Ontonagon, MI 49953. Due to the COVID 19 social distancing restrictions, the meeting will be available to the public via Google Meet. Rummage sale at Paine United Methodist

PAINESDALE —A basement full of great finds will be offered at Albert Paine United Methodist Church in Painesdale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The church is located on the corner of Iroquois and Hulbert Street overlooking Jeffers High School Funds raised at this event will be used toward community outreach programs as well as ongoing renovation needs.

MARSP meeting set for Monday in Houghton

HOUGHTON — The last spring meeting of the Houghton Keweenaw Chapter of MARSP, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, is scheduled for Monday at the Bonfire Restaurant in Houghton. The local business meeting will begin at 12:30 pm followed by buffet lunch and speaker. The speaker will Cathy Kass-Aten, the executive director of Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. All members and their guests are encouraged to attend.
