Mohawk celebrates Independence Day
Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Keweenaw County’s village of Mohawk enjoyed great weather during Saturday’s Independence Day Parade, which was followed by kids’ games and activities in the park.
MOHAWK — Keweenaw County Sheriff Curt Pennala led Saturday morning’s parade in the village of Mohawk, kicking off Independence Day festivities.
Pennala said afterward that it was good to see so many people out for the parade, games, food and activities in the Mohawk Park, especially after the lengthy COVID shutdowns that had drastically restricted people from moving and had cancelled so many events last summer.
The parade was a bit smaller this year than in previous years, because organizers had requested that politicians and businesses not participate, making it a parade that focused on the village and its residents.
