HOUGHTON — The United States Coast Guard has authorized the Michigan Department of Transportation to make temporary changes in the Portage Lake Lift Bridge operation rules.

From Wednesday through Friday, the lift bridge will only open on the top of the hour from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, instead of opening twice an hour as currently authorized.

From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the bridge will require a three-hour advance notice for openings.
