EPA, EGLE host Torch Lake cleanup open house

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) invite you to an open house to learn about the Torch Lake Cleanup Projects status and next steps.

The meeting will be May 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Auditorium.

The projects will address waste drums and impacted material previously discarded in Torch Lake. So far, work has included in-lake investigations and the development of cleanup options to address impacted waste material and clean up sediment at the Lake Linden Recreation Area. Information regarding a pilot study to figure out ways to improve the health of the organisms that live in the sediment of the lake will also be shared.

EPA, Honeywell, and EGLE representatives will be at the open house to provide information and answer questions regarding the Torch Lake Cleanup including the Lake Linden Recreation Area and Hubbell Processing Area in Torch Lake.

Project area maps, photographs, and information on completed, on-going, and planned activities will also be available at the open house.
