Man arraigned on drug charges

L’ANSE — A Baraga County man was arraigned Monday in 97th District Court on six felony charges related to a year-long investigation.

Randy Owens, 41, is charged with six counts of delivery-manufacture of less than 50 grams of a controlled substance. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team (HST) troopers stopped Owens’ vehicle on Monday, finding what they determined to be more than40 grams of cocaine packed in 1-gram baggies and illegal prescription pills, according to a Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) release.

UPSET detectives also executed a search warrant at Owens’ house. They said they recovered more illegal prescription pills, two handguns and several long guns.

Owens’ bond was set at $250,000.

He is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Tuesday and a preliminary hearing on May 30.
