Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund to host second trivia night

Get ready for an encore, family friendly virtual fundraiser

LANSING – In an effort to continue raising funds for Michigan’s foster youth, the Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund will host an encore, family friendly virtual trivia night from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.

“We received so much support for our first trivia night that we had to do it again,” said Robin Lott, director of the Office of Postsecondary Financial Services. “We may not be able to meet in person, but we can still support our foster care youth virtually.”

The event will feature surprise guests, prizes and other engaging activities. Participants show off trivia knowledge while supporting a great cause.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased through the MET Fostering Futures Trust Fund Payment Website.

All proceeds from ticket sales are awarded as scholarships to former foster youth currently enrolled at Michigan colleges and universities. During the 2020-21 academic year, 495 students at 58 different institutions are eligible for support.

At the beginning of August, the Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund hosted their first virtual trivia night. Forty-eight teams competed and raised nearly $3,000 for former foster youth currently enrolled at Michigan colleges and universities.

Close to 12,500 youth are in the Michigan foster care system run by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Fewer than 10% of former foster youth nationally enroll after high school and fewer than 3% eventually earn a degree.

The Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund holds annual in-person fundraisers in Grand Rapids, Lansing and Detroit. All these events were postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
