UPHP members alerted to security breach

EpiSource press release

EpiSource found that an unknown, unapproved third party accessed its data. Some of this data included Upper Peninsula Health Plan member data.

EpiSource learned on February 20, 2023, that its cloud-based account was accessed the day prior by an unapproved person. EpiSource took instant action to secure the involved systems. They have added more security measures to protect their systems. EpiSource told UPHP as soon as it learned that some UPHP members were involved. This notice was on February 28, 2023. On March 3, 2023, UPHP found out which members were affected. UPHP is contacting each of these members directly.

The involved file on the cloud-based system contained data which may have included one or more of the following: name, gender, member ID number, Medicaid ID number, date of birth, and provider information.

UPHP is offering credit monitoring to affected members.

UPHP suggests members carefully review all documents they receive regarding their health benefits. If a member thinks that someone has used their health benefits, they should contact UPHP Customer Service at 800-835-2556 (TTY: 711) Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.- 5p.m. The call is free.
