Hancock School Public Library joins 1000 Books before Kindergarten Program

As part of our commitment to early literacy in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties, the Hancock School Public Library invites you to participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. The self-paced and year-round program is aimed at getting children ready to read by the time they enter kindergarten.

The premise is simple: read 1000 books before your child begins kindergarten. While it might sound daunting at first, reading one book a day for three years gets you to your goal (anyone can read to your child and repeats count). And we promise to make it fun along the way!

Stop by the library and pick up your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten folder. It has book logs as well as book suggestions, bookmarks and coloring pages. For every 100 books read, stop by our Circulation Desk and receive a small reading reward.

The Hancock School Public Library offers free library cards to all, and does not have a residency requirement. Stop by to sign up for your card today! Please call the library at 906-487-5925, ext. 8005, or check us out on Facebook, for more information.
