Noteworthy Christmas Concert, Thursday at Sacred Heart

CALUMET – Noteworthy invites everyone to celebrate the season at its annual Christmas concert, set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 50512 Rockland St.

“Our theme this year is ‘A Very Merry Noteworthy Christmas,'” said Noteworthy director Joan Petrelius. “We have a wonderful variety of songs this year, and they all remind us of the love and joy of the holiday season.”

The only women’s barbershop chorus in the Copper Country, Noteworthy is recognized for its intricate, a cappella harmonies and fun, accessible melodies.

Concert highlights include “Christmas in About Three Minutes, featuring more than 20 holiday songs; the traditional Caribbean carol “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy“; and “O Christmas Tree,” including a solo in the original German by Karin Schlenker.

Also on the program are “Caroling Caroling,” Mary’s Little Boy Child” and “Let It Ring,” a parody of “Let It Snow” about the joys of cellphones.

Admission is free. Noteworthy always takes a free-will offering for local charities during its concerts, and this Christmas the beneficiary is the nonprofit Don’t Do It Yourself. Established in 2013, DDIY’s mission is to provide emergency funding for people in Houghton and Keweenaw counties coping with medical hardship.

Noteworthy welcomes new members and invites all women who enjoy singing to come to the concert for an introduction to barbershop music. For more information, contact Petrelius at 906-482-5088 or noteworthychorus@gmail.com.
