Gremlins shut down Falcons, 2-0
HOUGHTON — Wanting to build off a modest two-game winning streak, the Houghton Gremlins hockey team did just that on Saturday, earning a 2-0 win over the visiting Rochester United Falcons at Dee Stadium.
The teams skated to a 0-0 tie through much of the first two periods of play before Gremlins defenseman Milo Schaefer took advantage of a power play and beat Falcons goaltender Caleb Godlewski at 13:11. Co-captain Jiseung Choi and Camden Markham both assisted on the goal.
The game remained 1-0 until the Falcons pulled Godlewski late in the third. With one second remaining in the contest, Tucker Tapani put the game out of reach for the Gremlins off a feed from Niko Rajala.
Matthew Ryynanen made 19 saves to earn the shutout for Houghton. Godlewski made 30 saves in the loss.
Houghton returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Calumet.
