SNB-Stanton holds off REL Inc., 6-2

STANTON — SNB-Stanton staked an early lead and held on for a 6-2 win against REL Inc.-Mohawk Technology in Copper Country Twilight League play Tuesday.

SNB-Stanton (2-1) scored four runs in the first and escaped a fifth inning threat by REL Inc.-MT (2-1) to get the win.

Stanton set down the first two REL Inc.-MT batters in the fifth before Sam Kariniemi, Brent Loukus and Bryce Loukus all singled, with Bryce Loukus getting an RBI. Darren Nordstrom walked to load the bases and SNB-Stanton pitcher Trent Keteri got out of the jam with a groundout.

The fifth was Keteri’s final inning of work. He gave up two runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Eli Luoma pitched the final two innings, giving up no hits or walks with two strikeouts.

Stanton brought nine batters to the plate in the first inning to put early pressure on REL Inc.-MT pitcher Alan Jurmu.

SNB-Stanton started fast when Connor Hannon singled, Daron Durocher was hit by a pitch and Tyler LaDuron roped a RBI double to left field. Erik Nettell hit a sacrifice fly RBI, Luoma walked, Josh Koskela singled and Dax Durocher had an RBI single.

Hannon led off again in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Daron Durocher. Keteri scored in the sixth on a wild pitch.

SNB-Stanton plays Garnet Garage-Subway (2-1) at 5 p.m. Friday at Stanton Field to open the Leo Durocher Tournament. REL Inc.-Mohawk Technology plays Dean Kangas-State Farm in the tournament’s Friday nightcap at 6:30 p.m.

Garnet Garage-Subway 12, Dean Kangas-State Farm 1

HANCOCK — Garnet Garage-Subway piled on late runs in a 12-1 win over Dean Kangas-State Farm on Tuesday.

Garnet Garage-Subway (2-1) scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Dean Kangas-State Farm (0-3) threatened early with runners on first and third and one outs, but a flyout by Brian Juopperi to center field turned into a double play as the throw to first beat Jay Daavettila tagging up.

Garnet Garage-Subway scored three runs in the next half-inning. Kade Farrell singled, Austin Keivonen hit an RBI double to help set up the runs. Brandon Norkol and Jordan Reynolds walked.

All was quiet until Garnet Garage-Subway added two more runs in the fourth. Reynolds singled, Keivonen was hit by a pitch and Norkol doubled. Will Romano hit sacrifice fly RBI.

Garnet Garage-Subway racked up three straight hits in the seven-run sixth, by Farrell, Alan Jurmu and Reed Heathman. Farrell and Heathman had an RBI each.Jason Janquart reached on an error and Romano was hit by a pitch in the inning.

Dean Kangas-State Farm was set down one-two-three in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Garnet Garage-Subway pitcher Chris Saari struck out leadoff batter Brady Turner before exiting the game with an arm injury. Dean Jurmu pitched the rest of the way for Garnet Garage-Subway. Jurmu gave up the lone run on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

Garnet Garage-Subway plays SNB-Stanton at 5 p.m. Friday in the Leo Durocher Tournament. Dean Kangas-State Farm plays REL Inc.-Mohawk Technology at Stanton Field at 6:30 p.m.
