HANCOCK — The Houghton boys and girls cross country teams enjoyed good showings at the Bulldog Invite on Thursday afternoon.

At the Maasto-Hihto Ski Trails, the Gremlins girls team rolled to victory by a fairly wide margin. The Houghton boys held off a tough Ishpeming team in their portion.

Hancock girls finished second.

Eric Weiss posted a time of 17:06.6 for the Gremlins, who had a team score of 28. Ishpeming was second with 35 points.

Joseph Nordine of Ewen-Trout Creek was less than a second behind Weiss.

Branden Peterson and Evan Labyak came in fourth and seven to aid the HHS score.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City came in third behind in the boys meet as John Paul Norlin and Davin Hill came in 9th and tenth.

Jeffers was in fourth place with Tavin Larson coming in 12th. Chassell’s Kolton Kytta had an 11th place.

Houghton’s Ingrid Seagren — a steady top five placer this season — placed second behind Lola Korpi of Ishpeming, who had a 19:36 time.

But Seagren received plenty of help from teammates Paige Sleeman and Autumn Eles, who came in third and fourth.

The runner-up Hancock girls team scored 74 points as Sierrah Driscoll showed the way with a fourth-place finish. Teammates Maylie Kilpela and Adria Keranen chipped in with 12th and 16th places.

Third place Calumet was led by Kiira Berg, who came in seventh and Chloe Loukus 11th. Kamryn Sohlden of Chassell finished tenth as CHS was fourth in team results.

Local schools will be in action next Monday at the Calumet Invite at the Swedetown Ski Hill.
