Michigan Tech is hoping for a little more puck luck against Bemidji State this time around.

The Huskies (17-10-1, 7-7 WCHA) visits Bemidji State to open the WCHA tournament this week. Tech lost 4-1 and 2-1 on Feb. 19-20 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Puck drop is 8:07 p.m. Friday, 7:07 p.m. Saturday and, if necessary, 6:07 p.m. Sunday.

The Huskies outshot the Beavers 82-40 during a short scoring drought when they scored just three goals on 118 shots.

Tech was swept last weekend by Minnesota State to close out the regular season.

Bemidji State (13-8-3, 8-5-1) swept Alabama Huntsville by 2-0 and 4-0 scores last weekend. The Beavers have won four of their last five games, including two in overtime against Minnesota State and Lake Superior State.

Two Huskies enter the weekend with at least 20 points. Junior forward Trenton Bliss leads the team with 24 points including 12 goals. Junior forward Alec Broetzman leads the team with 13 goals and has 21 points. Freshman forward Arvid Caderoth is third on the team with 18 points including 16 assists.

Despite the scoring drought last month, the Huskies’ offense was powerful overall, scoring 39 goals with 70 assists, by far the best month-to-month trend. But the Huskies also played 12 games in February, twice as many as they played in January. Still, Tech’s offense performed slightly better than January (17 goals, 32 assists) when adjusting for that.

Tech’s power-play (28.2%) was its strongest in February, as was its penalty kill (94.3%) as any time in the season.

The Huskies’ offense has also been comfortable on the road, scoring at an even pace with scoring at the Mac.

Ethan Somoza leads Bemidji State with 11 goals and 16 points. Alex Ierullo has a team-high 20 points with 14 assists.
