To the editor: The February 10 Mining Gazette editorial was misleading and the conclusions the editorial tried to make were unconvincing. The DefundBergman campaign is about accomplishing unity through responsible healing. The editorial you published demonstrated you did not watch the press conference, available on the Facebook page, which announced this campaign. You did not reach out to any of the defundbergman members before writing about what our goals and objectives are. To the editor: This was the twenty-second year that The Keweenaw Detachment of the Marine Corps League has conducted a Toys for Tots Campaign in the Copper Country. In spite of the obstacles created by the Coronavirus, outstanding community support enabled us to provide nearly 3,900 toys to 1285 children in the Copper Country. It shocks me that healthcare workers are being targeted in the U.P. with death threats for supporting keeping the population protected from a deadly virus. The per capita infection rate and mortality rate in the U.P. from COVID is among the highest in the world. The economy cannot thrive if more than ¼ of the consumer population and working population is dead from COVID. There is no coming back from that.
