The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the Police Officer’s Association of Michigan (POAM) will be awarding four deputies on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Houghton County Circuit Courtroom.

The ceremonial awards are for the heroic efforts involving the 2018 Fathers Day flood in the rescue of Thatcher Markham.

The deputies that will be awarded will be Hans Tolkinen, Tyler Harju and Angela Miles from the Houghton County Sheriff Department along with Brad Pelli of the Keweenaw County Sheriff Department.
