Arraignment delayed for Coppo
HOUGHTON — The arraignment for Houghton County Undersheriff Kevin Coppo on charges of drunk driving has been delayed.
Originally scheduled for Monday, it was pushed back to April 4 in 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County.
Coppo faces misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated — BAC of .17 or more and for failure to stop after a collision. He was also cited for refusing a breathalyzer test.
Coppo was arrested March 3 after he was reported to have hit another vehicle in a hotel parking lot in Traverse City while driving a county-owned vehicle. Coppo had been attending a conference for first responders. In blood-alcohol tests administered at the jail hours later, he blew a .23 and .24 — three times the legal limit in Michigan.
Coppo took a leave of absence after the arrest. Houghton County Sgt. Jon Giachino was appointed as temporary undersheriff earlier this month.
