New judge appointed to preside in Dixon case

HOUGHTON — A new judge will be presiding over a Houghton County murder case. Marquette County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Wiese will take over as judge in the case of Evan Dixon. He replaces Houghton County Circuit Court Judge Brittany Bulleit, who recused herself from the case. Bulleit had previously served as county prosecutor and assistant prosecutor before becoming judge last year. Murder trial moved to January

HOUGHTON — The trial of a Wisconsin mother and son accused of murdering a Hancock Township relative at his home last year has been postponed. Margaret Kempainen, 51, and Jacob Kempainen, 21, had originally been scheduled for the October trial docket. Last week, that was moved to January. They were both arrested last year on charges of killing Alvin Kempainen, Jacob’s grandfather and Margaret’s father-in-law, at his home.
