Enroll now for Michigan Clean Water Corps Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program

The Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps), a network of volunteer monitoring programs that collect and share surface water quality data statewide, is accepting enrollments for the 2021 Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP) season.

Volunteers monitor water quality, invasive species and habitat conditions in lakes across Michigan. They receive detailed instructions, training and equipment. Data that is collected will be added to the MiCorps Data Exchange, a public database that includes CLMP lake information dating back to 1974.

Long term monitoring provides data needed to recognize the health or condition and changes over time of a lake’s water and habitat quality. Monitoring is also a great way to make a difference while enjoying the outdoors.

Interested volunteers need to enroll by May 10. Details can be found on the CLMP enrollment webpage. Training is required for new volunteers and they can access a recorded training workshop on the CLMP training web page. There is a nominal fee to cover the cost of sampling equipment that will be provided to you and sampling support and can be paid when you sign up to volunteer. Experienced volunteers are also encouraged to watch the session as an opportunity to review program information.

MiCorps was established in 2004 by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to engage the public in collecting water quality data for use in water resources management and protection programs. MiCorps is administered for EGLE by Michigan State University (MSU), in partnership with the Michigan Lakes and Streams Association (MLSA) and Huron River Watershed Council (HRWC).

Follow MiCorps on social media for updated information, videos and announcements of grant opportunities on Twitter (@MiCorpsMI) and Facebook
