Thank you, Rachel Lankton

To the editor:

On October 28, 2020, Rachel Lankton will participate in her final meeting as a member of the Houghton City Council. Since first being elected to the Council in 2004, at various times, Rachel also served on the City Planning Commission and many important Council subcommittees.

She currently serves as the chairperson of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Rachel was actively involved in the 2006 relocation of the Portage Lake District Library and the 2019 development of the City’s Skateboard Park. She supported the city’s purchase of the Carnegie library building thereby preserving this historic building for public use. Rachel respectfully treated members of the public, fellow council and commission members and city employees. Her thorough proofreading of drafts of the city’s master plan, meeting minutes, and every other document placed in front of her along with the elegantly spoken “move to approve” will be missed. Thank you, Rachel, for your 16 years of public service.
