Liquid spirits do harm

To the editor: I am going to try and write this letter and not sound self-centered, judgmental or religious, because I’m not. But, someone has to denounce crazy ideas that would make God’s house anything but a home of worship and prayer. I’m talking about the Paster and Brewster from a church I saw on TV6. They said they are going to have a brewery in their church and invite the community in to drink the beer there. I know that churches are having a hard time filling pews, but let’s get real Pastors and start studying, trusting, and doing what’s in those Bibles gathering ...

Giving Tuesday

To the editor: Everyone wants to do more with their money and Giving Tuesday is a great way to do that. I volunteer for medical transports for Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly and get to see what Little Brothers does and to meet such nice people who haven’t been out since their last doctor’s appointments. On special holidays, they have great meals, then they provide wood for home residents who make any for themselves. Or if you are in your final days of life, you can be at a great place like Omega House. There are so many nonprofit organizations that can only make ...

No cause for complaint

To the editor: The other day while shopping, I saw an unusual number of empty shelves and the items I purchased were more expensive than they had been earlier in the year. When I got to the checkout line, the person in front of me was emptying a cart piled high with merchandise and complaining about the broken supply chain and higher prices for which the shopper blamed the government. The supply chain is privately owned and managed. It is broken because businesses and corporations failed to prepare for the robust consumer demand that is being fueled by record low interest rates, ...

Houghton’s bus system

To the editor: I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a sincere “thank you” to the Houghton Transit System. The citizens of our area are truly fortunate to have their buses available and the services they provide. My experiences have been nothing but positive on every requested ride. Not only are they reliable and timely, but the excellent drivers are courteous and caring. The cost for the transport is very reasonable and the buses are even clean! I’m sure I am not alone in hoping this transport service never changes the hours of operation or worse, is discontinued. I ...

‘Native’ Americans

To the editor: I have nothing against the Houston Astros, but am glad the Atlanta Braves won the World Series. Major League Baseball (MLB) politicized the sport when it moved the All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver. That was punishment for voting regulations by Georgia’s legislature to protect the integrity of elections. AP sports articles about Atlanta winning the World Series ignored its significance in relation to the decision by MLB to move the All-Star Game for political reasons. That victory would have been celebrated by news media leftists if Georgia’s state ...

The times, they are a-changing

To the editor: The Powers That Be in our public health “community” have been busy lately. Not honing data more precisely. Nor studying repurposed medicines. Nor monitoring vaccine reactions. Nor investigating “gain of function” research. Not even establishing where the virus originated-- information crucial to knowing how to proceed in future. No, they don’t have time for such things. But they have time to rewrite history. Especially medical history. So that medical history and terminology appear to agree with whatever the “authorities” tell us. (And will appear to have ...
