TNC takes no position

To the editor: I read the Oct. 22 article, “Proposal for 34,000-acre public nature park faces monumental challenges” with interest, especially as I noted that The Nature Conservancy in Michigan (TNC) was referenced. To be clear, at this time, TNC is not taking a position specifically related to Mr. Wendt’s proposal of a 34,600-acre county/township park. TNC has a long history in the Keweenaw, including the creation of our Mary Macdonald Preserve at Horseshoe Harbor and our Helmut and Candice Stern Preserve at Mt. Baldy. To the editor: As the weather changes, I just can’t get enough of our beautiful Lake Michigan, it’s pristine waters and gorgeous beaches. I ask myself why Congressman Jack Bergman is willing to risk our Great Lakes in the service of the oil barons he represents?  Rep. Bergman recently wrote, “Line 5 is the lifeline of the Midwest.” Well, the Great Lakes is the lifeline of the entire country as well as the world. This is the largest body of fresh water in the world. Thanks, ‘Andrew’

To the editor: A young man, only known as “Andrew” to me, was at the free meal event hosted by Applebee’s in Houghton in observance of Veteran’s Day. Getting a free meal was nice in itself; but, Andrew went out of his way to shake all Veterans’ hands and thank them for their service. This made the day even more special. It was refreshing to see that at least some youth recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that all U.S. Veterans’ have made, including myself. Well done lad! Thank you.

Honoring veterans

To the editor: I am writing this letter to you on Veteran’s Day. This day is important to me, as it recognizes and remembers those men and women (and their families) who have provided me with the freedom and life that I have. As a civilian, I don’t think I can possibly grasp their sacrifices, but I am so appreciative of those who serve. This year, through talking with several veterans, I learned that Applebees provides a full meal and a gift card to our veterans to thank them for their service. To the editor: Jack Bergman voted no against the recently passed infrastructure bill. According to the DMG in July 20, “There are nearly 1000 bridges in the Upper Peninsula.” Of those, “fewer than half are rated good — the rest are rated poor.” Let me repeat, Jack Bergman, our representative in Washington, D.C., voted no against the bill, which in addition to spending on other needed items, would help to repair bridges. Why I wouldn’t allow Circle Power turbines

To the editor: First, Circle Power Amber/Infrastructure/Hunt Company are really based in London! Second, U.P.P.C.O. is controlled by a leveraged equity holding company, Balfour/Beatty, London also! Third, Circle Power/Amber Infrastructure is a builder, who I would guess, would sell their turbines to someone else, after building! Fourth, Adams and Stanton Twp. need to have have a legal binding, irrevocable contract that follows NEW owners or they aren’t liable for the old contract!
