To the editor: A recent letter to the editor asks, why truth is so hard? What happened on Jan. 6, is well documented, both as far as people being let in and taking selfies with the Capitol guards, as well as Capitol Police fighting and tear gassing “aggressive” protesters. Unfortunately, a woman who was one of the peaceful protesters was trampled to death. She was the second victim that was not a personal medical issue. To the editor: A few years ago, I spoke with an individual contractor about a job he was doing for the state and I asked, “Isn’t that kind of expensive?” He said, “We don’t worry about that because there’s always more money where that came from!”  Now whether that is state or federal monies, or county, township or village monies, or even grants, they all come from you, the taxpayer. Here in Houghton County, we have three private nursing homes and one county care facility. To the editor: Dear Parents/Guardians of Calumet (CLK) schools, I would like to convey to all of you how fortunate you are to have your “kids” learning at CLK. I have been a substitute teacher for four years and have often traveled from Amasa to CLK to sub, let alone to many other schools in Houghton, Baraga, Iron, and Dickinson counties. Why is the truth so hard?

To the editor: “Why is the truth so hard?” Capitol police officer Dunn asked, during the hearing on the January 6th insurrection. In a very emotional, gut-wrenching hearing, four police officers, who had been defending the Capitol that day, told about their physical and psychological trauma. Anyone listening and seeing the videos had to be horrified.  It was powerful testimony.   The officers dispelled the Republican talking points that these were Antifa dressed up like Magats, or these were “tourists,” peaceful protesters, or that there was love, lots of hugging ...
