To the editor: The letter to the editor titled “open letter to Ed McBroom” crosses a line in civil discourse and didn’t deserve to have been printed. Accusing Sen. McBroom of “becoming an instrument of Satan” is an example of the unhinged statements that are uttered by people that result in harm to others. Support for care facility millage

To the editor: The August ballot contains the county proposal “Tax Limitation Proposition for Operation of The Canal View – Houghton County.” This is to replace the expiring current millage to support the formerly named Houghton County Medical Care Facility. The Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country supports this proposal and encourages you to vote yes on the Aug. 3 ballot. No reason absentee ballots are available now. To the editor: Like so many of our local businesses, schools and nonprofits, the Portage Lake District Library (PLDL) and the Hancock School Public Library have faced many challenges since March of 2020. After an initial 3-month mandated building closure in 2020, our phased reopening lasted nearly a year, and included short-term closures due to changes in pandemic related policies at the state level. To the editor: Election fraud isn’t the issue with Donald Trump and his supporters. Election loss is the issue. If Donald Trump had won the election, there would be no protest. Nevermind that the same election procedures would have been in place. If Donald Trump had won, no Trump supporter would have complained. To the editor: Please note, I really liked the June 29 letter, titled “The True Story.” It gives real substance for banning the recreational use of marijuana. Maybe users of it should turn in their drivers licenses, voter registration cards, as well as any and all lethal weaponry that they possess.
