STANTON — Superior National Bank-Stanton put a bow on the regular season with a 5-0 win against Dean Kangas-State Farm in Twilight Baseball League action Tuesday.

The win didn’t mean anything for the Wildcats in terms of playoff seeding. They clinched the league’s No. 1 seed last week. The loss locked State Farm (3-6) with the No. 4 seed. Both teams play in the league tournament at 11 a.m. Sunday at Stanton Field.

Garnet Garage-Subway beat REL Inc.-Mohawk Technologies 6-1 in the other game. Both teams finished with a 4-5 record, but REL Inc.-MT clinched the No. 2 seed because it was 2-1 against Garnet Garage-Subway during the season.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats (7-2) scored a run each in the first two innings. Erik Nettell drove Carter Nettell in with a single in the first. Kevin Bostwick singled Josh Koskela in the second.

Erik Nettell was inches from a grand slam in the fourth with a drive to right center. The ball bounced just below the top of the fence, settling with a double that scored Connor Hannon, Carter Nettell and Dax Durocher.

The Wildcats’ defense was also in top form, turning double plays in three innings. The first was in the second inning after Ross Kinnunen drew a one-out walk. Kinnunen waited on a weak fly ball to center field by Carson Turner that brought Carter Nettell streaking in. Nettell dove for the catch as Kinnunen broke for second. Nettell popped up and threw out Kinnunen at first.

The other double play came in the fifth when Brandon Teichman rolled over on a pitch to Erik Nettell at third, who flipped it to second baseman Cole Jepsen, who turned the back end of the double play with a throw that beat Teichman at first.

The double plays helped thwart a State Farm offense that threatened with runners on base in the seventh. Wildcats pitcher Eli Luoma escaped the seventh inning jam with runners on first and second by getting Travis Wesa to fly out to shortstop for the win.

Luoma threw a complete game, giving up just two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Brian Juopperi and Brady Turner had State Farm’s base hits.

Hannon was 3 for 4 with two stolen bases for the Wildcats. Erik Nettell was 2 for 3 with four RBI. Josh Koskela doubled and walked. Trent Keteri was 2 for 4.

Jason Koski, Brandon Teichman and Brady Turner pitched for State Farm. They combined to give up five runs on nine hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
