LL-H boys win Lakes Early Bird meet; WIC wins girls division

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell boys track and field team took first at the Lakes Early Bird meet Tuesday.

The Lakes edged Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 146 to 143 for first place. Calumet (61) took third, followed by West Iron County (43), Chassell (26), Baraga 24, Hancock (17) and Jeffers (2).

West Iron County won the girls division comfortably with 168.33 points, with LL-H taking second (96.33). Calume (93) placed third, followed by Chassell (59), Hancock (56), Baraga (26), Dollar Bay-Tamarack City (17) and Jeffers (2.33).

The Lakes swept the first four spots in the 100 meter dash. Caleb Klein took first, followed by Ben Tampas, Isaac Codere and Will Lyons. Hancock’s Vandan Jacques took fifth.

LL-H’s Will Lyons took first in the 200 meter, followed by Caleb Klein. Connor LeClaire took third for DB-TC.

Johnny Norland won the 400 run for DB-TC.

Kolson Kytta won the 800 run for Chassell. He also won the 1600.

Amos Norland took the 3200 for DB-TC.

Calumet’s Richard Probst took the 110 hurdles. LeClaire won the 300 hurdles.

LL-H took the 400 relay ahead of DB-TC and Calumet. LL-H also won the 800 relay. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City won the 1600 relay and 3200 relay.

DB-TC’s Dwayne Randell won the shot put at 38 feet, 9 inches.

Baraga’s Christian Brown won the discus at 114 feet, 0.5 inches. Randell (106-4) was second.

LL-H’s Mason Codere won the high jump at 5-4. Lakes’ Sam Roberts took pole vault at 8 feet. Klein won the long jump at 17 feet.

Girls results

West Iron County had a strong day in the short distance, with Danica Shamion sweeping the 100 and 200 dashes. Calumet’s Carli Jacques took second in both events. LL-H’s Melissa Wagner took the 400, ahead of WIC’s Calli Pellizzer.

Calumet’s Alexis Strom won the 800 just in front of WIC’s Avery Bociek.

Chassell’s Gwen Kangas won the 1600 and 3200.

WIC’s Jordan Shamion took both the 100 and 300 hurdles, with LL-H’s Abby Beaudoin taking second place in both.

Calumet won the 400 and 800 relays. WIC took the 1600 relay. Chassell won the 3200 relay.

WIC’s Jordan Shamion topped shot put and teammate McKenna Kegley took first in discus. Baraga’s Ellie Delene won the high jump.

LL-H’s Camaryn Crouch won the pole vault. Calumet’s Laina Kariniemi won the long jump.
