Michigan Tech skier Needham receives CoSIDA accolades
HOUGHTON — Houghton native and Michigan Tech Nordic skier Anabel Needham was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team on Thursday.
Needham, a junior, has a 3.94 grade-point average in environmental engineering. Her at-large selection qualifies her for the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Selections will be announced in mid-June.
Needham competed for Team USA at the 2022 U23 World Ski Championships in Norway. She won the classic sprint. She also took third in the 10K individual to qualify for the world championships.
Needham was an NCAA First Team All-American in the 5K classic, finishing fourth – good enough for the best finish in Michigan Tech program history. She also took 12th in the 15K skate, leading Tech to a fourth-place finish, also the best in program history. Needham was an All-CCSA First Team skier for the second straight year. She had podium finishes in all but one CCSA race.
Needham is also a cross-country runner for Michigan Tech. She ran her fastest time at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship and was the Huskies’ No. 3-ranked runner. She was named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team and the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team.
