Copper Kings advance with sweep of Bulldogs

CALUMET — The Calumet Copper Kings volleyball team defended their Division 3 District 65 title Friday night with a sweep of the Hancock Bulldogs at the Calumet Gym. The Copper Kings won, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-15.

Jackie Kiilunen and Maddie Torola paced Calumet with 11 kills each. Kiilunen was also good defensively with 13 digs.

Allison Bjorn was key in all aspects for the Copper Kings. She had nine kills, 14 digs, and two blocks.

Caitlyn Strom fnished with six kills and one block.

Laina Kariniemi spread the ball around well, racking up 38 assists and was key at the service line with four aces.

UP NEXT

Calumet moves on to face Manistique Tuesday in the Region 17 semifinals. The match will be played at Marquette High School at 6 p.m.
