Michigan Tech curling club has strong showing at nationals

RICE LAKE, Wis. — The Michigan Tech curling club took part ing the USA Curling College Championships this weekend at Rice Lake, Wisconsin, getting to the semifinals on Sunday in the process.

Competing for Michigan Tech throughout the weekend were skip Gracie Kohn, third Rese Elza, second Bryce Doering, lead Tyler Magnuson, and alternate Noah Patterson, along with coach Gordon Maclean.

In their opening match with Yale in Draw 1, Michigan Tech cruised to a 14-0 win by scoring three in the first, and four in each of the third and fifth, ending the match after five frames.

In Draw 3, Michigan Tech took on Nebraska. Michigan Tech emerged victorious, 5-3 in three frames. They scored three times in the first and twice in the third to seal the win.

In Draw 5, Michigan Tech found themselves taking on RPI. Scoring four in the third, and then six in the fifth, they earned a 13-2 win in six frames.

With three wins, they earned a spot in the quarterfinals against Toledo. Looking to advance, Michigan Tech did just that with a 12-1 win in six frames. They scored four in the second and four more in sixth on their way to the win.

UP NEXT

Michigan Tech is taking on Princeton in one of two semifinals Sunday. The other semifinal features Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
