Eternal life comes through learning, understanding

Skeptics have false ideas about the Bible, so they shouldn’t criticize what they don’t understand. God made humans with free will, not as robots incapable of making mistakes. What we learn and choices we make prepare us for eternity as creative and spiritually mature individuals. The Bible doesn’t say that being a member of a church saves us from eternal death or gives us eternal life. Only God can do those things. What in the world is happening at the Disney Studios? Have they gone completely insane? My understanding is that a remake of Snow White is in progress. It should be at theaters in 2024. The moral of the story will be changed from vanity to one of race. Such utter impudence. Hollywood needs to make its own befitting fairy tale story about critical race theory. Learning from the Human Knot exercise

I chatted recently with a woman who serves as both the soccer coach and the Girl Scout leader for her 11-year-old daughter. She told me of a group exercise that is popular today called “the Human Knot,” that involves randomly joining hands and then, without letting go of each other, talk with each other to become disentangled. The Scouts had no trouble straightening themselves out, but the soccer team, which included many of the same girls, “took forever” to solve the puzzle. There was no mention of the former president indicted in multiple criminal trials, including alleged violations of the Espionage Act, but two attacks on our sitting president (Opinion page, July 14), who is old but not senile and has managed to avoid a recession and curb inflation post-pandemic (eggs $1.19/dozen and gas $3.15/gallon) and continues to create jobs while unemployment reps to historic lows. Calumet Kids Fishing Derby a success

Our 18th Annual Calumet Kids Fishing Derby on July 15 at the Swedetown Pond was a fun time had by all. Two hundred two kids enjoyed catching hundreds of fish with a free hot dog lunch when the fishing ended. Prizes were awarded to the largest bluegill, perch, bullhead and the smallest fish, and every kid who registered a fish was able to pick a prize. The Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club would like to thank the following for their support and donations.
