Non-objective news

To the editor: Is it honest and objective news we hear and read, or propaganda,? The Epoch Times compared the Associated Press to TASS, the Soviet “news” agency. The AP isn’t that evil, but it is biased. We know about George Floyd and the cop who killed him in May 2020, but what about the other victims and their killers? If AP articles in the Gazette are your only sources of national news and you never read the editorial pages, you’ve never heard of David Dorn or Ashli Babbitt. Who are they, and do they matter? Opposing Secure MI Vote

To the editor: The League of Women Voters of the Copper Country is educating voters on Michigan’s fair and secure elections in light of a ballot proposal that would make voting harder for many people. The organization, Secure MI Vote, is collecting signatures now to enact citizen-led legislation to take away Election Day voting options, make absentee voting less accessible and gut funding for election administration in Michigan. South Range Oktoberfest

Spaghetti thanks

To the editor: Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 would like to thank everyone who supported our Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser held on Oct. 3. Thank you to all who purchased tickets and to all who helped out with the event. Our fundraiser was well attended and because of everyone’s generosity, was a great success. Proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will go towards supporting the post, veterans and community service. The 50/50 donations help fund Post 186 American Legion Baseball. The support to area veterans’ groups and veterans from our community is truly overwhelming.

Stop bickering about the national debt ceiling

To the editor: Both parties are responsible for increases in the national debt between 2001 and 2021. The national debt increased by $21.884 trillion during that period. During the Bush and Trump presidencies, the debt increased by $12.575 trillion. During Obama’s presidency, it increased by $9.308 trillion. During Bush’s presidency, the national debt increased by an average of $594 billion per year. During Obama’s presidency, the national debt increased by an average of $1,164 billion per year.
